Various parts of the body such as ears, nose, scalp, palms and feet, hold a micro system of the body, consistent with the brain map discoveries, which has been done by of Canadian neuroscientist Wilder Penfield. Dr. Penfield found that maps of the body exist on the surface, or sensory cortex, of the brain. This same brain map is also projected onto different areas of the body, “micro-systems.”

Micro-system acupuncture focuses on treating the whole body by stimulating specific, smaller areas that correspond to different organs, systems, or functions. Instead of using traditional full-body acupuncture points, this technique targets localized areas such as the ear, hand, scalp, face, foot, and abdomen to diagnose and treat health conditions.

This approach is widely used for pain management, internal organ dysfunctions, neurological conditions, and emotional imbalances. Micro-system acupuncture is highly effective, especially for patients who are sensitive to full-body needling or those requiring targeted treatment.

Different micro-system acupuncture practiced at AAON WellCare are

  • Su-Jok Therapy - The Su-Jok treatment system, which Prof. Park Jae Woo developed, is the result of comprehensive research of the correspondence systems of the human body as found on the hands (Su) and feet (Jok). Thus, Su-Jok therapy springs from the observation of the similarity of areas of the hands and feet to the human body as a whole.
  • Auricular Acupuncture - It is the stimulation of acupuncture points on the external ear surface for the diagnosis and treatment of health conditions in other areas of the body. Ear acupuncture had been practised in ancient civilizations of Egypt, Europe, China, Japan and India. The practice of cauterization of ear for healing of particular diseases still exist in these traditional societies. The first systematic research on ear acupuncture is credited to Dr. Paul Nogier, who can rightfully be called the “Father of Auriculomedicine.” The brain map is projected in particular precision onto the ear.
  • Scalp Acupuncture - Scalp acupuncture is a commonly used therapy against neurological disorders, such as paralysis, Parkinson disease, and multiple sclerosis. It could encourage recruitment of healthy brain cells to perform the lost function. It has been proven to be a most effective technique for treating acute and chronic central nervous system disorders.
